YAI’s Code Of Conduct

As a member of Yoga Alliance International and as a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT) or representative of a Certified Yoga School (CYS), I agree to uphold the ethical goals set forth below in the Code of practice:
  • Uphold the integrity of my vocation by always behaving in a professional and conscientious manner.

  • Acknowledge the limitations of my skills and scope of practice and when required, refer students to seek alternative instruction, advice, treatment, or direction.

  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for the practice of yoga.

  • Respect the rights, dignity, and privacy of all students all students regardless of age, physical limitations, race, creed, gender, ethnicity, religion affiliation, or sexual orientation.

  • Avoid words and actions that constitute sexual harassment.

  • Follow all local government and national laws that pertain to yoga teaching and business.

Schools or teachers found to be in violation of this Code of Conduct as determined by YAI will be de-certified and debarred from using any YAI symbols or materials. In addition, YAI Directors (at the country-level) are required to:
1. Submit an annual report on activities undertaken to promote YAI in their respective countries
2. Refrain from supporting any other similar Yoga organizations
YAI reserves the right to take such action as it deems fit with regard to such Directors if they fail to adhere to these terms & conditions.
A summary declaration of acceptable ethical and professional behavior which all Certified Yoga Teachers (CYT) and Certified Yoga Schools (CYS) and YAI Directors agree to follow. YAI expects all its members to uphold the highest standards of professional practice and maintain the dignity and responsibility that benifits the wonderful art and science of Yoga. Transgressions will meet with the strongest condemnation from the entire YAI community.
